Twins 👭, kidnapping, and a sadistic monster who enjoys torturing before killing, will have you reading “Cut and Run” in one sitting! The characters are nicely done, the storyline is complex, and the romance is unintentional on the characters part. In fact, there isn’t a lot of romance, but it fits the story just right. A daughter who happens to be an FBI Agent comes to Austin, Texas because her father has been tortured and killed. She starts investigating almost before she gets to town. Meanwhile, Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden is chasing down clues, and trying to keep a sex-only relationship secret. It’s not easy as he and Dr. Faith McIntyre of the Medical Examiner’s office see each other often with work. I find this story to be a very entertaining and engrossing read!

Lots of people will disagree with my on it, but the story got to much visceral , not enough cerebral for my taste....I like mysteries that engage the mind more...but others prefer the blow up everything in sight type of story. "Not my cuppa.."

Still, I MUST say the author did a great job - decent English, nice personality development among the characters...in places I really felt I was there...she creates a scene description artfully with so few words, one wonders how she did that. And fine story with a happy ending YAY!

This one particularly resonated with me as I am adopted. Hopefully my past is not filled with such dark shadows. Great story. Excellent pace, developed tension, and the more accidental romance just made it more realistic for me. Another great Mary Burton read!!
Didn’t quite keep you guessing to the end, but it was well written and a great storyline. I loved the characters, they were well developed and interesting. This book will definitely keep you coming back for more from Mary Burton!
Medical examiner Dr. Faith McIntyre and Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden work together to put the pieces together of current murders and 30-year-ago murders in Austin, Texas. Lots of suspense and with the puzzle seeming never to come together as DNA testing brings out surprising information. A bit of romance adds to the book without taking anything away from the tension of the investigations. As I expect from Ms. Burton -- strong, smart characters (both good and bad), scary moments, a satisfying plot/story and my feeling replete completing another bang-up murder mystery.
I gave Cut and Run a five star rating. It has been quite some time since I've read a book that captured my attention the way this book has. I recommend this book to serious readers. Take note that the book will be hard to put aside.

Missing girls, Twins separated at birth, tortured victim Jack Crow, FBI Special Agent Macy Crow is notified of the death of her father by Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden, brother of FBI Agent Kate Hayden from “The Last Move.” “Cut and Run” has all the elements that make up a very good mystery/thriller. It’ll keep you guessing.
This book starts off with a bang and never lets up.
The plot is good, the characters well developed and the story flows well. It's also edited well. Very few of those frustrating mistakes that distract from my enjoyment of a book.
